Getting more for your money
Recovery costs adding up? Here’s where we can help.
5 ways Egertons helps insurers and fleet operators get more for their money
Motoring isn’t getting any cheaper to put right. Premiums have eased since their peak, but UK drivers are still paying around £713 on average for comprehensive cover (Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index, May – August 2026). And behind the scenes, claims costs keep climbing – motor insurers paid out a record £11.9 billion in 2025, with vehicle damage making up 63% of it (ABI).
The reason? Modern vehicles are packed with sensors, cameras and expensive components, so even a small knock can mean a big bill.
For insurers and fleet operators, that means every part of the process needs to work harder – including what happens at the roadside. Here are five ways we help.
1. We can take over from the very first call
Our first notification of loss (FNOL) service can step in from the moment an incident is reported, taking on as much of the process as you’d like.
If the vehicle can still be driven, we can provide notification only. If it can’t, we’ll recover it to a safe place, a location of your choice or one of our secure storage sites. And with over 400 specialist vehicles, we can get help to any UK location – fast.
Fewer handovers, fewer delays, and fewer costs creeping in along the way.
2. We always try to fix first, and tow only when we have to
Towing costs time and money. Roadside repairs don’t – or at least, not nearly as much. That’s why we always try to fix it on the spot, and why 86% of the breakdowns we attend are sorted at the roadside.
Our technicians arrive equipped with onboard diagnostics and the latest vehicle tooling to identify faults quickly and get your vehicle moving again – with no workshop queues and no unnecessary downtime.
3. We send the right vehicle, first time
Sending the wrong truck is one of the quickest ways to double the cost of a recovery. Our control room asks the right questions on the first call and dispatches the most suitable vehicle from the nearest location.
From rotating and sliding cranes to low loaders, heavy recovery vehicles, airbag units and all-terrain kit, we’ve got the right tool for the job. Can we recover any vehicle, from anywhere? Yes, we can.
4. We’re ready for electric and alternative fuel vehicles
EVs and other alternative fuel vehicles bring new risks: high-voltage components and cabling, and stored energy that can, in rare cases, lead to fire. In the wrong hands, that’s dangerous.
Our technicians are trained to recover them safely, and every job is carried out to the standards of our PAS 43, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001 accreditations. All our technicians are fully qualified in commercial vehicle repair too.
5. If we can’t fix it, we’ll still keep your day on track
Recovery isn’t just about the vehicle. If a roadside repair isn’t possible, we’ll make sure your vehicle, your driver and your load all get where they need to be – even if that’s three different places, like the original destination, your depot and your preferred workshop.
The bottom line
Costs are under pressure across the whole motoring world. With more than 60 years of experience, we help insurers and fleet operators keep a lid on them – by fixing more at the roadside, getting it right first time and handling as much of the process as you need.
